What is Ventolin Inhaler and what is it used for?
Ventolin Inhaler contains salbutamol, a bronchodilator used to relieve asthma symptoms, shortness of breath, and wheezing caused by narrowed airways.
How to use Ventolin Inhaler correctly?
Shake the inhaler well before use. Then, exhale completely. Place the nozzle in your mouth and close your lips around it. Press the inhaler once while taking a slow, deep breath. Hold your breath for 5-10 seconds, then exhale slowly.
How many times a day should I use it?
For acute attacks, use one or two sprays as needed. For prevention before exercise or exposure to irritants, use one spray 10-15 minutes beforehand. It is not recommended to exceed 8 sprays per day unless advised by your doctor.
What are the possible side effects?
Some symptoms may appear, such as slight hand tremors, palpitations or rapid heartbeat, nervousness, or mild headaches. These are usually temporary and lessen with continued use, but if they worsen, a doctor should be consulted.
Can Ventolin alone be relied upon to treat asthma?
No, it is not a long-term treatment. It is only used to relieve asthma attacks or when long-term asthma control is needed. A preventative corticosteroid inhaler, such as Flixotide or Symbicort, is usually used alongside Ventolin.
